The Nobile of Montepulciano has been called ‘the aristocrat of wines’ since the 17th century, when it enjoyed tremendous popularity with the local noble families. It is made from a varietal of the Sangiovese grape known as the Prugnolo Gentile.
Our Montepulciano wine tour will take place in a beautiful and traditional winery with a short lecture about the wine’s history followed by a tasting session and canapes.

More about the Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG
It’s hard to say whether the word “Nobile” (noble), which has described this wine since the 18th century, refers to the quality of the wine or social rank of its admirers. The name may refer to the vine of noble lineage, Prugnolo Gentile, which is the basis of the wine’s grape mix today, according to its DOCG specifications.
The excellent quality of this wine derives from the vines, which are cultivated to produce low yields. After two years of compulsory ageing, the wine is ruby red tending to burgundy, with an intense, ethereal aroma; a dry, balanced and persistent taste, sometimes with wood overtones. Minimum alcohol content 12,5° (13° for Riserva wines). It goes well with everything: pasta dishes and all kind of meat.
